Welcome to Story of the Week!

Week 8

This week's novel is The Lost Hero, by Rick Riordan. This book is about a Roman demigod named Jason. Jason had his memories wiped and was placed on a bus for a school for "bad kids". He had no idea how he got there and is puzzled because he has a best friend named Leo, and a "girlfriend" named Piper. Piper and Leo have false memories of Jason. Piper's father is captured by giants and Jason and Leo must embark on a quest to save him. I would recommend this book to children older then Gr. 3. It's a great book and is perfect for fans of the Percy Jackson series.

Week 7

This week's book is Inside Out and Back Again, by Thanhha Lai. This novel is about a girl named Kim Ha. Kim is a Vietnamese girl. She lives with her mother and brothers. During the Vietnam War Kim and her  family had to move to the USA. This book is about the troubles and conflicts Kim went through. I would recommend to almost everyone. It is an easy read and a really good book.

Week 6

This week's book is From Ant to Eagle, by Alex Lyttle. This book is about an 11 year old boy named Calvin and his little brother Sammy. Their family moved from the city to the country. Calvin is bored in the country so he takes advantage of his brother Sammy. Calvin meets a girl named Aleta. He spends time with Aleta and ignores Sammy. Sammy falls ill and is diagnosed with cancer and Calvin's world turns upside down. Sammy is close to death when Calvin reconciles with him and apologizes to Sammy. Sammy dies and leaves Calvin sad. I love this book and would recommend it to Gr. 4 and up although they might cry.

Week 5

This week's book is Elephant Secret, by Eric Walters. This novel is about a girl named Samantha who has a special connection with elephants. Samantha and her father own an elephant sanctuary. One of the elephants is artificially inseminated. She dies giving birth to Woolly who they later discover is a woolly mammoth. Samantha also gets a new elephant who unfortunately breaks out of his cage and nearly hurts them. Samantha calms him down and returns him to his cage. Someone tries to buy the elephant sanctuary from her father but in the end they both end up owning 50% of the property. I would recommend this book to Grade 4 and up. This is an awesome book that tells a good moral. Plus, it's written by Eric Walters.

Week 4

This weeks book is Awkward, by Svetlana Chmakova. This book is about a girl named Peppi who is part of the Art club. Peppi pushes Jaime from the Science club. Peppi apologizes and they become good friends. However things are still awkward between the both of them. They are part of 2 rival clubs and Peppi feels like it's wrong to even say hi to him. In the end both clubs get suspended and they have to work together to get them back. The clubs make an indoor planetarium and the principal returns the two clubs and Peppi and Jaime can be friends. This book is a great book to read and I would recommend it to children all ages.

Week 3

This weeks book is Ghosts, by Raina Telgemier. It is about a girl name Cat (Catrina) and her sister Maya, who recently moved to a small, seaside town. At first, Cat hates the town and a boy she meets name Carlos. After an accident with Maya, Cat breaks off relationships with Carlos. Until Day of the Dead. She joins in the festivities and even meets ghosts. This is a great book for those interested in supernatural and humor. Those who have read any other books by Raina Telgemier will love this story of heartwarming friendship and sisters. *wink wink*

Week 4

This weeks book is Sisters, by Raina Telgemeier. This book is about 3 siblings going on a 3 day road trip from San Francisco to Colorado for a family reunion. In parts of the book, there are flashbacks of Raina wanting a little sister to play with but she would rather play by herself. When Raina and her family gets to their cousins house, Raina was lonely because when she was younger, her cousin was lovely and Raina wanted to be sisters with her. Now she was totally different, she was expecting calls, hosting karaoke parties and lots of teenage stuff. This book is a great book to read on a trip or if you want to go on an imaginary trip.

Week 5

Enemy Pie is a story that a young boy has an enemy on his street and needs to get rid of him. His dad helps by making an “Enemy Pie” and makes the boy go and be nice to him for a day. He does that and then lets him into his tree house. His dad dishes out his pie and the enemy eats the no harm pie. I love this story because it says you should always be nice to your enemies because they may become your friends.
